No red-blooded heterosexual male would refuse a steamy shower with Jennifer Lopez unless he's crazy. Once and Again star Billy Campbell does just that in Enough opening tomorrow about a horrid husband who'd sooner bruise his bride than suds her up. Did the actor laugh at J.Lo's sexual rejection scene as much as a preview audience recently did?
"I didn't chuckle, I was disappointed with the shower scene," Campbell tells TV Guide Online. "I thought, 'Wow, I'm gonna do a movie with J.Lo and be her husband.' And then I'm turning her away from the shower?!
"The girl is just so beautiful," he gushes. "She has the most beautiful skin of anyone I've ever met. I couldn't stop looking at her skin." Still, Campbell defends his character giving hers the loofah brush-off. "It certainly was plausible in terms of the story and what was happening," he says. "Obviously, the guy had all of his wife that he needed to have and was probably suffering sexual ennui with her."
How will Once & Again fans who only know Campbell as Sela Ward's sensitive dreamboat react to his psychotic persona? "I think they might be creeped out," he admits. Fortunately, his own reaction to J.Lo was quite the opposite. Campbell jokes that he came to Enough's set "prepared for all sorts of funny diva behavior," but now understands why Ben Affleck wrote her love letters in the Hollywood trade papers.
"I certainly had preconceived notions," he admits. "How could you not? She's an icon, in a sense. The s--- just flies with regard to her and not all of it kindly. Part of me thinks that maybe she sits in a room somewhere and makes these [rumors] up and sends them out in the world. All of it just increases the mystique of J.Lo!"
Still, he diplomatically says of his co-star: "I was completely disarmed. She's as sweet and funny as she can be. I never experienced the first riff of anything improper, untoward, uncivil. I was pleasantly surprised."
