Despite Bill O'Reilly's weekly Andy Rooney-ish rants on The Pulse airing Thursdays at 9 pm/ET the Fox news magazine is hardly registering 60 Minutes-like Nielsen ratings. We recommend giving viewers less O'Reilly and more Laurie Dhue, stat. In her pinstripes, pearls and smoky eyeshadow, this curvy correspondent raises our blood pressure whenever she's on-screen!
Unlike Paula Zahn who kvetched when CNN ads dubbed her "sexy" Dhue is no prude about her looks. "How great to be good-looking, smart and a good journalist at the same time," she modestly tells TV Guide Online. "Why not? They're not mutually exclusive.
"Look at Diane Sawyer. And Paula Zahn, she is intelligent and beautiful. If she gets a few more people watching, fine. That's great. I love that. It's so interesting when people say, 'Oh God, you're just another blonde on Fox.' I say, 'I'm glad I am.'
Dhue jokes that she and Pulse anchorman Shepard Smith love to ridicule Today anchor Matt Lauer's new haircut even as they "fight over our makeup person" at the Fox studio. Says the CNN and MSNBC veteran: "It's a visual medium. If you're flipping channels, sure you're going to stop if there's an attractive person on. My bottom line is getting the news out there. If I can look good at the same time, great. It's a win-win."
So what's with Dhue's chunky pearl chokers? Is she going for a Jackie O thing? "No," she laughs. "I just like them. If anything, it's a Barbara Bush thing."
