As Capt. Aceveda on FX's The Shield, Benito Martinez helps set a new standard for sexiness among TV cops. Was he a fan of the butt-baring Sipowicz on NYPD Blue? "Oh, no," he laughs to TV Guide Online. "That [episode] actually came on TV the other day, and I went, 'Ugh, I forgot this scene was there.'"
Sorry, Dennis Franz. We guess Martinez considers your acting Emmy-worthy, but not your tush. "The ass?" he muses. "It was a cute little number. It didn't have any oomph for me, I guess."
As with its violence, The Shield's sex quotient is much edgier than we typically see on network TV. "In one scene, this club was filled with strippers for a rapper's party," he recalls. "The director asked them, 'For this type of party, would you really be in a G-string?' They said, 'No, we probably would be full-on naked.' So they said, 'Let's go for that!'"
The show's boys get their share of bareness, too. "We have a lot of male bonding," Martinez grins, "in the sense that one cop is a closet homosexual, and he and his lover spend a lot of time fondling each other. We all witnessed that. They're just a couple, acting like a couple. And there's some scenes where I happen to be making love to my wife but you don't see my ass." Why not? "We haven't had any discussions about that. They cover it for some reason!"
