GET INTO THE GROOVE
Madonna will embark on a 14-city Re-Invention Tour beginning May 24 in Los Angeles. The tour — which will also include stops in New York City, London and Paris — will feature songs from her entire career, not just from that last CD that no one purchased. Smart move, Madge.
ARETHA HOSPITALIZED
Aretha Franklin was hospitalized over the weekend in Detroit for an undisclosed ailment. A rep for the Queen of Soul offered no other details. Franklin turns 62 on Thursday.
HE'S A FREE MAN
It was a good news/bad news situation for singer Bobby Brown on Monday. The good news: He was freed from an Atlanta jail three days ahead of schedule. The bad news: He was sprung in order to appear at an emergency family court hearing Wednesday in Virginia... and his wife's in rehab, and his career is in the toilet, and...
BOAT TRIP
Paramount is developing a Love Boat movie that's being described as a "broadly comic reinvention" of the classic TV series, Variety reports. Well, that explains Captain Stubing's decision to bypass Acapulco and head straight to the Bermuda Triangle. Here's hoping he throws that annoying daughter of his overboard while he's there.
EYE OF THE STORM
60 Minutes is taking a little heat for not disclosing on air its corporate ties to former White House terrorism official Richard Clarke's controversial new book Against All Enemies, which was the subject of a segment on Sunday's show. The book is published by CBS' sister company Simon & Schuster. "60 Minutes has interviewed authors from virtually all the book publishing companies over its 36 years and is beholden to none of them," a CBS rep says. "Publishers seek out 60 Minutes because it's television's No. 1 newsmagazine."
ANY WITCH WAY
Recently departed NYPD Blue star Esai Morales has been cast in the CBS pilot Sudbury, which revolves around sisters with magical powers. And they say there are no original ideas in Hollywood.
BAD TASTE
Eighties rock band Great White, whose pyrotechnics display sparked a Rhode Island nightclub fire that killed 100 people, insists it has nothing to do with a recently released cover album titled Burning House of Love. Great White's manager says the record company, Horizon Italy, is trying to capitalize on the band's current notoriety. The group is reportedly mulling a lawsuit.
SOMEONE'S GONNA GET FIRED...
Burt Reynolds, who famously fired his agent for encouraging him to do Boogie Nights, has agreed to play a has-been coach who launches a volleyball team composed of strippers in a new indie flick titled Cloud Nine. Current Playboy covergirl Rachel Hunter costars.
THE NEXT SONNY AND CHER?
ABC will air The Nick and Jessica Variety Hour, starring — you guessed it — Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, on April 11. The hour-long show will feature musical performances, special guests and comedy sketches.
STRIKE A POSEY
Indie darling Parker Posey has nabbed a lead role in USA Network's Dean Koontz's Frankenstein pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If it's picked up, the series could debut in the fall.
SHORT CUTS
NBC has landed broadcast rights to Cold Mountain, one of 2003's most underrated films. The pic will make its Peacock debut in May 2006... Entertainment Tonight talking head Bob Goen and HGTV host Marianne Curan (Landscaper's Challenge) tied the knot Saturday evening in a private ceremony in Southern California. This is the second marriage for both.
