JAKE RYAN ALERT!
Paging Michael Schoeffling! Molly Ringwald is in talks to finally make a sequel to her biggest hit, Sixteen Candles. "I've turned it down for years," she tells the Associated Press. "[But having read a good screenplay for the project], now it seems right." Of course, since the carrot-topped former ingenue is now 37 years old, shouldn't the title be changed to something more reflective of her age? "Four-Alarm Fire," maybe?
TAKE OFF YOUR LAB COAT AND STAY A WHILE
As reported in next week's TV Guide magazine, Nip/Tuck is adding Bruno Campos to its cast as a regular in the coming season. As fans of the FX drama will recall, he debuted late last season as Dr. Quentin Costa, the plastic surgeon who fixed Doc McNamara's slashed face. Maybe now Campos will be able to live down Jesse. (For more on Campos' new gig, check out tomorrow's fresh Ask Ausiello.)
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODELING SHOW
First VH1 stole away Janice Dickinson from America's Next Top Model (to do a season of The Surreal Life), and now this: Besides buying the off-network rights to Model, the cabler is catwalking into production The Agency, which goes behind the scenes of the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. VH1 has also picked up the rights to rerun NBC's upcoming reality series starring Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee, whom no one has ever mistaken for a model.
THE TRUTH ABOUT BRAD AND ANGELINA
Don't expect to get it from tonight's Primetime Live interview with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith leading man. He uses the Q&A to discuss poverty and AIDS in Africa. "We have the potential to end poverty [there] in our time," he tells Diane Sawyer. "Man... I mean, what is more exciting than that?" Does it make me a bad person if my answer is "Proof that Angelina Jolie is a hot-to-trot homewrecker"?
O MY!
Apparently, even when Oprah picks classic authors for her book club, their titles start flying off the shelves: Within 24 hours of becoming the talk-show host's latest pick, a boxed set of three William Faulkner novels ascended to No. 2 on Amazon.com's best-seller list. Clearly, La Winfrey has yet to read Louise Shaffer's heartbreaking and hilarious new release, The Ladies of Garrison Gardens.
WILL WONDERS NEVER CEASE?
Stevie Wonder and designer-wife Kai Millard Morris have just announced that they welcomed a son into the world way back on May 13, the R&B legend's 55th birthday. Mandla Kadjaly Carl Stevland Morris is the couple's first child together and Wonder's seventh overall. Clearly, Kai's got some catching up to do.
THE BRITISH ARE GOING, THE BRITISH ARE GOING...
to spend a fortune. Blimey! A texting lottery for tickets to Bob Geldof's fundraising Live 8 concert (taking place in London on July 2) is expected to rake in as much as 20 million pounds. (In American dollars, that's a heap o' green.) Among the big names bringing in the big bucks are Englishmen Elton John, Sting and Paul McCartney — and Madonna, who continues to think she's English.
PLEASE TELL US "KATE" IS GOING TO PRESENT
On Nov. 10, Tom Cruise will be given the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award by the British Academy of Film & Television Arts/Los Angeles at the 14th annual Britannia Awards. We're not sure what it's all about, but apparently, the Academy has decided that he's English. Poor Madonna, foiled again.
THIS 'N' THAT
Heaven help us: ABC is fast-tracking a biopic of the late Pope John Paul II from the producers of Jesus (and we don't mean God, either)... Will Smith and Nicolas Cage have signed on to face off in Time Share, a comedy about a pair of pops who crack when they realize their families are booked at the same time share at the same time. But wait... wouldn't that just mean they'd have to share? I don't get it... Ben Stiller has agreed to headline a big-screen remake of the 1971 British TV series The Persuaders.
