3 > CSI Star MIA at ER Funeral
By Daniel R. Coleridge

On tonight's ER — airing 10 pm/ET on NBC — many ex-cast members are expected to return for the farewell of Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards). Who? Exec producer John Wells has kept that info under tight wraps. But we can tell you who won't be there: CSI star Jorja Fox, who played lesbian lady doc Maggie Doyle from 1996-99.

"They did call a couple of weeks ago asking if Maggie Doyle could go to Dr. Greene's funeral," Fox tells TV Guide Online. "Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do it because I was working that day for CSI. They invited a tremendous amount of people who worked on ER throughout the years — it's going to be one of the saddest shows on TV. I was sad I couldn't go because Maggie loved Dr. Greene!

"If I were free that day, I would've courtesy-called CBS," she wants to assure fans. "I don't know how they would've responded, but they probably would've let me go." Meanwhile, Fox just wrapped taping CSI's second season in Las Vegas. She looks forward to tonight's episode — airing 9 pm/ET — which introduces David Caruso and Elizabeth Procter's characters, who'll be in the CSI: Miami spin-off this fall.

"Honestly, every time I think I'm over it, they remind me how disturbing our show is," Fox — who plays lab-rat Sara — hints. "Two upcoming episodes are the grossest ones we've had on. This summer break will be nice. I'll do things where the sun is shining, and I'm not going to be interested in dead people at all!"

3 > L.A. Law Louse Returns
By Daniel R. Coleridge with Michael Ausiello

How did Dharma & Greg star Alan Rachins really feel about revisiting his old role for L.A. Law: The Movie? "I was very reluctant," he tells TV Guide Online, "because Douglas Brackman is a character that, in a way, put me on the map — but also limited me. He was sometimes not the most appealing character, and I didn't know if I wanted to go back to that..."

After his role was "refined" throughout "different drafts" of the telepic's script, Rachins came aboard. What initially turned him off? "Part of the movie is about Michael Kuzak (Harry Hamlin) momentarily coming back to the firm" for a death penalty case, he explains. "I'm the money guy who doesn't want to do this because it's going to cost the firm money. In the earlier draft, Douglas was much more heavy-handed and stupid [about it].

"And now," the actor adds, "he is still the money guy, but his objections are more reasonable and the way it evolves is much more mature. I felt that after all this time — considering that he's now in Leland McKenzie's office with more responsibility — he should be more mature in the way that he handles his decisions."

Having protected his character's integrity, Rachins was free to enjoy the reunion with his former castmates. He admits "we didn't get to know each other" during the series's 1986-94 run. Hence, being trapped together in Vancouver for filming afforded the cast "more camaraderie this time around."

After NBC airs the movie on Sunday night (at 9 pm/ET), Rachins hopes they'll see they "missed the boat by letting this franchise go" and resurrect the show in some form. Meanwhile, he also awaits ABC's decision on Dharma's fate. With the sitcom's ratings low — and bored critics licking their chops in hopes of its demise — Rachins knows a sixth season looks iffy.
